I come up with topics from everyday life. I have a weird view of the world. Sometimes it's pretty cool what God shows me, other times it's pretty dumb what I am seeing myself. You decide.

This needs Salt, Hey Who turned out the Lights?
Matthew 5:13-15
New Living Translation (NLT)
Teaching about Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless."
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house."
We have all read these scriptures, some of thousands of times. We know we're supposed to be Salt and Light to the world. What does this actually mean? Way back before man invented fire, I imagine they went to sleep when it got dark. I mean if they did not, they just stumbled around in their dark cave and hit their heads or toes on the rocks. Fire changed their world forever, for after fire they could stay up past dark and watch Johnny Carson. There are very few inventions that came along that were as important as fire.
What about salt? I have often wondered how someone discovered salt, there are many things we have in our world that are common to us, but who was the first person to try them? Salt comes in crystal form, so someone was eating and reached down and rubbed this crystal they found somewhere, basically just a pretty rock, on their food. ""Hey, this is pretty good" they said ,"What would happen if I beat this crystal to tiny little pellets and sprinkled it on my food?". Thus high blood pressure was born,. But look at the many things salt can do. I watched a show one time about how they manufacturer salt, from mining it to it's many uses. There are literately thousands of uses for salt, from food preservation, to being put in the rubber manufacturing process of tires. When they discovered salt and then realized how they could use it as a preservative, it became another very important discovery.
Jesus told His disciples that they (and we) are to be the "Salt of the World" and "The Light of the World" Wow, that is quite a challenge. Salt and Light are two of the most important things in this world, for without either, I don't think there would be life on planet Earth. Salt and Light are two things that we don't really notice everyday, we would notice them more if they were NOT present, as we take them for granted.
WE, as Christians, are to be like that, we are to be ever present, to be seen, heard, noticed because of our Light, and flavor, and Joy. We are to be like these things because if we did not exist through Christ, life would not be the same. People would notice that "Somethings is missing" "It doesn't taste quite right". When you are eating somewhere, say at a restaurant or friends house, and you bite into something that doesn't taste right, what is the first thing you reach for, usually the salt shaker. Salt makes food taste right. God in His wisdom put this taste for salt into all of us for a reason, our body cannot survive without salt. Light is something our world would not exist without, also. The plants would not live, we would not survive.
What is going to happen when all the people of God are taken by Him in the rapture? This world will be destroyed after Satan tries to take it over. The salt and light of us who know Christ as our personal savior and king, will be gone. Destruction, and mayhem will rule.
When Jesus told us to be Salt and Light to our world, did He realize what He was saying? Of course He did, I believe , this was His biggest challenge to us. Like Salt or Light, there is always an amount that is too much. To much salt ruins food, and too much light will blind you. This is also, I believe, a lesson Jesus was trying to convey.. If your trying to tell someone about how much love and joy it is to serve our Father, God, Jehovah, and you are all "In your face" to someone, until your a pest, what good have you done? More harm then good, you have over salted, or blinded them with too much light. Salt adds flavor, lots of flavor, but it also overpowers the flavor. Jesus also told us that light hidden under a "basket" does not do much good, keep our light in a place were everyone can see. So, don't keep your relationship with God hidden, be proud of Our God, and let everyone you know SEE HIS LIGHT.
Let us live our lives to complement Gods "Flavor" not over power it. Let us live our lives to help others see the way with Jesus' light, not blinding them by shining OUR little puny flashlight in their eyes. GOD'S light brightens their whole world, GOD'S Salt flavors their whole world. Everything we do, must be through HIM, not us.
Here is to Salt and Light, two discoveries that God knew we would find, because HE made them and left them were we could find them. Now, let us be the Salt and Light of the world and others will notice Him through us.
