The two Wills

Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

~ Proverbs 3:6, NLT

Growing up I would make fun of my Mom, not out loud you understand that would mean a lecture, but I would make fun of her. When we would enter a very busy parking lot she would start praying for a parking space, not just any parking space but one close to the door of the store we were going to. I would think: "Mom, God doesn't care about where we park" BUT more times then not, we would find the "Perfect space". My Dad these days will pray for a homeless person who is asking for "donations" on the street corner as we pull away from the corner he is standing on. I have thought: "Dad, God doesn't care for that man, he is just looking for a handout to buy drugs".

Looking back I am ashamed of these thoughts. I am very slowly beginning to understand that God cares about every aspect of our lives. Should you pray before deciding wither to eat at McDonald's or Wendy's? Sometimes that is our own personal choice, what sounds better, a Big Mac or a double meat double cheese at Wendy's? But what if there is a customer or worker at McDonald's that needs some encouragement today, and you start up a conversation with them and pray for them? See, your decisions sometimes are about more then us. I believe God arranges "just by chances" all the time. Your praying for someone because God has put them on your mind, and the phone rings. Guess Who? Yes they called you because they hadn't talked to you in a while. But really, God put you on their mind. They wanted to talk to someone about what they were going through, and you came to their mind. Just "Happenstance"?

These type of things happen more often, I believe, to us that "Seek His will in all we do" This doesn't mean that we need to ask God before EVERY tiny little decision we make, it means to "Listen" to Him when He is trying to tell us something. You go to a baseball game and see someone you know, who is going through a very hard, difficult divorce,(ANY DIVORCE is hard, difficult,..........) and you get a chance to talk to them and share with them. Maybe you were thinking about not going to the game tonight, you were tired, but then you decided to go, it would be good to get out, and have some fun. You think God had a hand in this decision? This actually happened to me this last summer, several times. And there were other times I did not listen to God and just stayed home. What happened to the people that I was supposed to talk to, did someone else cover for me, or not?

The more we "Seek His will in all we do" the more "He will show us which path to take". I used to read this scripture and think the "Path" that He was going to show us that we should take, was all about our future, our lives.......But is isn't like that always. He thinks about more then us, I hate to break your bubble, but God has a few billion others He loves as well. But when we listen to His nudges, His slight pushes, His whispers to try and get us to do what we need to do, then He leads us down the right path for our future as well.

It's amazing how this works, but the more we love, care, think, put others first, the more God blesses US. The more we care about someone else s future, the more God shows us ours. It all comes down to that "He who is first shall be last......" kinda stuff. You know that " serving others before me" attitude that got Jesus in so much trouble here on Earth.

Another thing my Mom would do is when we saw a wreck that just happened or a ambulance going to the hospital, she would start to pray for the people involved. I would always think :Mom, you don't even know those people", I think I even said it out loud once. She turned to me and said: "NO, but God does".

So remember, "Seek His will in all you do, and He WILL show you which path to take" I just realized that the word "WILL" was there, not "might", or " perhaps", or if you pay your tithes (but if your really seeking His will, I believe you will do that already), or not miss a service for 5 years, or "volunteer at church" or "give money to the homeless".............. God's word says: "(IF) We WILL seek His Will in all we do, then He WILL show us which path to take." Those "Will's" are not to be taken lightly, when God says "He Will" do something there is no argument , there is no doubt, and He expects us to honor our "Will's" as well.

We cannot "Will" anyone to do anything, and God has chosen not to do this. So only by our seeking His Will for our lives, will others "Wills" be changed. We can change others "Wills" by our actions, our attitudes toward them, our caring, our love, our generosity, our just talking to them, treating them like they are not invisible. We have the power to change someones WILL, make their day, acknowledge that they are alive, and we care enough to just say "HI, how are you today?" Give them reason to live. Show them that God loves them, right were they are.

What a powerful little word: "Will". An proclamation that we are going to do something or a word to stand on that we KNOW something is going to happen. But more importantly our choice wither we live for God, or by default we live for Satan. It's your will, you choose.
